    Unhappy 110 miles on a Spacesaver !

    Oh, boy.
On Saturday evening, we were driving back from our week in Devon, somewhere between junctions 17 and 18 on the M4. As I pulled back into the middle lane after overtaking, I realized that the steering was pulling to the left. By the time I got to the hard shoulder the NSF tyre was totally flat and smoking. "Gosh", I said, and "Drat" -or words very similar .
I got the wife and dog out of the car, and to safety, briefly considered changing the wheel, decided I didn't want to die, and called the AA.
The man was there in around 50 minutes, and we changed the wheel (we had a boot full of luggage that I had to unpack, too). Then I had to drive home on the Spacesaver at no more than 50 mph. . It was one of the longest drives of my life. It took ages, but we finally made it home at 21:00, after leaving Lynmouth at 14:00.
    What a journey.

Event tyres are coming to fit a new Kumho today, and to have a look at the punctured tyre, which has no visible holes in it.

The boot on my pre-facelift Signum won't take a full size spare unfortunately. The Event tyres man has just been, and he can't see any obvious punctures, so the tyre's going back to the manufacturer, and I've had another new one fitted.

I've never go that far for a branch of Specsavers.
On the plus side, I've never squeezed 47mpg out of the 3.0 CDTi before! Oh, and if you use a spacesaver on a front wheel, the speedo goes haywire and over reads by about 8 mph. I had to use Tom Tom's speed reading all the way home.

Ooooh that sounds painfull! It reminds me of my 400 1990 euro passat estate I bought in 2007 The 'passion' wagon.. although not a good one at that as the closest i got to passion was snuggling upto my mates after boozing it up at the hanover beerfestival...

It was all good until it came to christmas leave! Hanover to Tidworth.. the usual drive. With 5 fully grown squaddies and all their kit bags.. i think the back end was less than an inch off the ground..

Then it got foggy behind us.. just, it wasn't fog.. the rear righthand wheel bearing went about 20mins from the Belgium-French border.. called the AA (as i got one day cover just incase as my ferry was at 23:55).. only to find out the number on the paperwork was a 9 til 5 number!!!!

30mph all the way to calais.. they let us on a late ferry (even thought I had to drive back and forth at passport control incase it seized up on us lol). 25mph all the way to Basingstoke to drop the lads off, stopping at every service station on the way.. Then finally got home, 26 hours after we started

Still don't know how I made it back.. the caliper had melted too!!!! Ah well.. still got 60 quid for the skip down the scrappy
