Default Anyone Tried Using 100% Nitrogen in their Tyres

From what I've read on this subject, it still appears in-conclusive whether switching over to Nitrogen filled tyres is actually beneficial.

I've seen various reports claiming it improves the car ride quality, (Plecebo effect maybe)lol

Reduces Tyre road noise (Placebo effect again maybe)

Maintains tyre pressures longer. (probably true as molicules are larger)

Tyres last upto 10k miles longer.

Considering that the oxygen we breath consists of 78% Nitrogen anyway is there really any any advantages in switching to Nitrogen, or is it just another scam.

Has anyone on here used it, and did you notice any difference. ?

    Thanks for the link matey.

Never heard of this before, bit out of touch...lol a member on one of the forums mentioned that it reduced his road tyre noise, which prompted me do a little research into it.

Bit of a scam I think.. Unless your an F1 driver, which I am not, though the wife seems to think I am sometimes.

Only difference I suspect it makes...is a fiver less in your pocket..

When I think about it, I'm sure the gas that the F1 teams use is a closely guarded secret...

Probably made from Kryptonite or something.....

I had some tyres fitted, and filled with nitrogen. To be fair i paid 60 quid to have the front and rear aligned perfectly so the wear has been okay, but even then its been 7000 miles and my tyres will need replacing in another 2000.. I don't know about an extra 10k lol!!! As for road noise.. the cars quiet anyway. It does handle great though, but why shouldn't it?

Great idea as the pressure does stay in longer.. but when it does go down.. where do u go before a long journey? The garage.. do they have nitrogen pumps.. no.. so you end up having to top up with air..

The other thing is the tyres are not filled with pure nitrogen. You'd have to suck out all of the air first and then inflate with nitrogen. Complete gimmick for road cars imo

Beside the side effect of keeping performance F1 tyres slightly cooler, I think the other main reason they use Nitrogen is because it may reduce any slight risk from further oxygenating a fire, in the event of one occuring. Anything that improves safety on the race track even if only a little is worth having I suppose.

Completly agree with you mate but at least the F1 teams know what they are doing with the stuff. Not like the little spotty thick kid in Kwik-Fit etc
