Default Split Coolant tank 2.8 V6

Had a split coolant tank, .. which I replaced at a hefty expense of 200 euros (parts only).. took it for a test run today from cold and erm.. the new one seems to of split aswell. Any ideas why?

I won't know for definate til after its cooled down and I can whack it out and check, but its dripping quite bad from the back. Doesnt seem to be from the lower hose with the spring clip, but will definately check that. And the temp sensor is in a seperate channel so running out of ideas now.. 13 days til i drive to Italy and beginning to get cheesed off!

Don't know the cause bud, but a few guys on VXR online have had to replace theirs. AFAIK Saab released a modified part for there 2.8s because of this.

Did you replace the coolant cap also? Could it being coming from the return pipe at the top of the header tank? Just a couple of ideas

Default Split coolant tank 2.8 V6

Mine split/cracked at the bottom spigot , took it to the dealers and they replaced it free of charge(might have been network q covered) and they said the plastic gets brittle because of the heat from the engine in that particular area

Had mine replaced under Network Q about four months ago they said it was the heat from the engine in that particular area makes the plastic brittle? , my lower spigot snapped of they tried to connect the lower hose to a now shorter spigot but failed so replaced the whole tank , still plastic so how long before it goes again I do not know

Is network q the warranty? Or a seperate thing due to common faults? Yeah I couldn't believe it. But the plastic definately felt damaged. The new one has fatter nozzles and hoses on the top two connections too. Probably a prone spot as mine was cracked below the right hand one. Hopefully, touch wood, it will be okay on another run tomorrow.

'Network Q' is the VX after warranty you can have up to a certain mileage/age offered as a sales aid by VX, very useful these days of uncertainty. You can also purchase it if you wish as an insurance so to speak again mileage/age dependant. hth .....

Mine is a v6 turbo and I pull a caravan with it!!!!! I too have had the coolant smell and the temperature sometimes climbs to about 93/94 whilst crawling in traffic with van on!! at present, I can not see any coolant leaking. I prosume if my coolant level drops dangerously I will get a warning on the dash?? I am dragging it down to Newquay in a couple of weeks!!!

    Tom

PS Luke, That is the grill to have, just ordered one for mine!!
