Default Bumburgers - got pulled by the police last night

For failing to give way, or failing to obey a give way sign. I can't remember the exact phrase.

I was waiting to turn right. Looked right, clear. Looked left, clear. Looked right, clutch up, gas on and away, only to see a van approaching, so more gas and out of the junction. I then notice it's a police van and he's turning around. *******. So I poddle off, hoping that they'll have bigger fish to fry at 9.30pm, half a mile from the town centre. Nope. He follows, I pull in to my destination (pub car park - designated driver), flashy blues. Then I'm made to feel like a little kid by a condescending copper. "Would you mind telling me why you failed to give way" "Apologies, but I thought it was a safe manoeuvre" "But I had to anchor up to avoid a collision" "Really? Well, I apologise, but I wasn't aware that you were approaching so quickly" "Are you telling me you couldn't see this big van with lots of stickers and lights on it?" "Well, it is dark, so I could only see your front lights". I then realise that I should maybe take the rest of the talk and let him go about his business, hoping that they'll make a mistake on the form.

Anyhoo - £30, non-endorsable fixed penalty to cough up within 28 days.

Also - a 7 day producer to show my insurance docs for the car. My sodding insurance company hasn't changed my policy details with the rozz-masters computer. Apparently, the car is insured by BAE Systems. Which is jolly nice of them - I might well ask them to carry on insuring it, saving me £300 p.a.!

So - a poo night really.

Off to see a mate's Dad tomorrow, who helps people get off things like this - if there's been a mistake made on the form, then I might get off. If not, I'll stump up the dosh.

To contest will mean a day off work, paying for parking etc in town, gathering all my gubbins and supporting bits and bobs. All for £30 - I'll just skip a night on the pop and cough up the FPN.

I was also told to change my side repeaters - I've just bought some ultra blue ones from ditchp on here.

I'd like to say that I'm not having a pop at the police - other than being slightly patronising towards me, they weren't rude or anything. I've got nothing to hide and I was polite back - really no point in making things more difficult for myself by being an awkward type.

3 hrs? did you pay them off to give you a fast response time?

Up here we have to phone them up and tell them we shot the burglar to get them to show up same day!

3 hours? Last time I reported anything in Notts they turned up 5 hours after the report.

It's one to chalk up to experience. Don't pull out on a rozz van in the dark when they're driving too quickly towards you.

Still, I'm going to get some satisfaction out of farting in the envelope when I post the £30. And I'll be playing rugby against Derbyshire Police in a couple of weeks, so I'll get my money's worth then...

should have said your tea is getting cold.

once at work the boss caught a burgler only a young un 15 or 16 phoned the police they couldn't get anyone to come out as there busy so they told him to get the lads name and address then to let him go and they will get the name when they get a spare patrol to call round.

£30 and no points? It's not worth the bother of contesting it, IMHO.

Not picking on you here Fandango, just using your post as an example - if at night, somebody can pull out in front of traffic, admitting they have seen headlights approaching, can somebody explain to me again why daytime running lights are going to reduce accidents?

Lucky it was a police van and not a police motorcyclist or any of the roads policing lot, what with all this bike awareness camapign everywhere. IMO, I think you got off lightly with the FPN.

If I'd have been on my bike, I'd have crapped myself if you'd have pulled out.

We've all done what you did, me included. - just wrong time, wrong place I guess.
