Question Euro 3 and Euro 4 V6 CDTi engines...

Question regarding these engines: what did Vauxhall actually do with them to make them so fragile on the facelift engines, but able to take 220bhp on the pre-facelift...?

I'm stuck on whether to get the euro 4 as I want a facelift car, or the Euro 3 as I'd love the thought of 22bhp and the monumental amounts of torque from a remap...

More to the point, could you take a facelift and drop a Euro 3 lump into it without too many problems...?

Ooh, the things I think about when I read Total Vauxhall.....

The pre-facelift doesn't really like the extra horses either. You'd be looking at expensive fuel pump repairs and possible engine failure. Both engines have fragile injection sistems, only the Euro4 is a bit more fragile.

Also I understand that on both, the gearboxes struggle with 220bhp, that's why I took the tunning box off mine.

Was thinking of buying a prefacelift anyway and facelifting it, but it's not jsut the front end that I'm after, it's all the other changes they made, mainly inside with toys and stuff...

They actually took some "toys" out of the later ones !

Deffo an engine that only the very brave would 'tune' though, whether face-lift or pre-facelift.

True, but assuming the swap from half to full canbus happened at the same time as the switch between engines, there's a few things you can't have with the half canbus, such as the CD70 with colour satnav.... I think...

I specifically went for the prefacelift for a few reasons
Yes, having the "toys" from the faeclift is nice, but the prefacelift is easier to live with!

I prefer the front lamps on the prefacelift, the bulbs are easier to get to
The engine is more manageable, no need to worry about loss of power during DPF cycle, equally it is one less component to go wrong

The early prefacelift had more standard equipment, which mine doesn't have but I am quick happy it doesn't have "auto dimming rear mirror" as I had this in my previous Mondeo and hated it

The Y30DT is at the limit of what the gearbox can handle
Just take it to the slip limit and you can see why!
It's not so much about the power, but the torque
It's not the fastest off the mark, but can really be seen when you use low gears at or above 20mph

I think in the end I'll just have to wait and see what make's itself available in my price range with the options I want on it, but 2 out of the 3 major bits I've already bought for it are for the facelift so I'll be going that way whatever I buy...

Yes availabilty of these rare beasts is also an issue
I waited about two months then three appeared locally, although one was nearly 100 miles away!
    I had choice between :
Blue, SRi hatch, 10K miles, 17 months old, £11800 - mine
White, SRi estate, 46K miles, 24 months old, £11300 - rejected due to mileage
Green, SRi hatch, 22K miles, 18 months old, £10950 - rejected due to colour

Ironically, the blue one was just 10 miles away!
