Default Squeaky brakes when off pedal. Do the rears have a shoe handbrake?

Since coming back from the MOT station yesterday my brakes sqeal when I'm off the pedal (the noise stops when I brake). I don't know if it's the fronts, but my pads are good all round so I wondered if the rear handbrake used shoes in the drum part of the disc just like the old Vec B GSi?

No mate the handbrake works on a spring in the caliper. Thats why the pistons need wound back when changing pads. Sound like you need the pads coppaslipped hth

Cheers. Where do I put the coppaslip? I have copper grease, should I smear this all round the back of the pads and round the caliper pistons, although I thought that was to stop the squeal during braking rather than the problem I have?

Put it on the backs of the pads and on the slides. It helps when braking bit stop the pads sqeaking when they aren't being used. Also are the anti rattle springs in place
Oh and btw coppaslip is a trade name

    Default

ive also heard stores of the backing pads causing squealing too

might be an idea to ensure they're not pushed up against the pads.
