Default EGR Valve on 1.9 CDTi 150

    Hi Guys,

Have been reading up and it would seem that a dodgy EGR valve may be the cause of my flat spot between 1 and 2k rpm

    I have seen on the how2 section that there is a how2clean the valve on a 2.0dti but only a how2replace on a 1.9CDTi.

Can the valve be cleaned and put back on the 1.9 or do I have to go spend a fortune at VX on new bits and bobs?

    Ta!

Yes, it can be cleaned which IMO is a 50/50 way of trying to sort it - I am sure there is a how2 for that on this forum.

Take the EGR off - split the EGR at the allen key bolts - then submerge the mechanical side in brake fluid - then with a paint brush and rags with flat blade screwdriver get to work on cleaning it....

You will also need to clean the inlet where the EGR sits - as that will be extremely caked up tooo.. Use a flat blade screwdriver with a rag over to clean out all the muck - then a paint brish with brakefluid on to finally clean up..

Done a few now and it makes a huge difference if yours is very dirty.. Mine had only done 34K when I cleaned it and the amount of soot and muck in was increadible.!!

I have definately read a how to on how to modify an EGR valve for a CDTI and it had a wonderful illustration of all the steps of removal/cleaning/modify. Got no idea where it is, I've had a quick look at the how 2 section but to no avail. Perhaps someone who can actually use the search feature of the site can find it?

Please find attached a PDF document of the How 2 to clean and modify the EGR for a Z19 CDTI engine. All credit for this How 2 goes to member 'jon7278'.

    OMG!

That sure was looking pretty gunked up? Was the EGR still working okay prior to your removal for cleaning?

EGR working hard and not properly before.
After cleaning the EGR, the engine began to consume less fuel and the engine began to be more nimble.
