Great Train Robber Ronnie Biggs has been granted release from his prison sentence on compassionate grounds, Justice Secretary Jack Straw has said. Train_Robber I'm not happy ........

    Farce?

You can commit a terrible crime, escape from prison, evade capture get caught show no remorse ever, and then get off your sentence because you're ill? Sets a terrible precendant.

If you can't do the time don't do the crime ring a bell?

What's not in the public interest is releasing hardened lifelong criminals regardless of their health. We should be punishing criminals harder not more liberally.

Just wrong for him to be released.
    .
Even though the crime wasn't like some committed today, if judge and jury saw fit to sentence him, that's where he should stay

Interesting point knox, more important than?
We're releasing terminally ill criminals now are we? So what does the Home Secretary do when a terminally ill person commits a crime, are we not sentencing them, because they're going to die same as Biggs? And what if that crime affects you or me? Nobody chooses to be a victim of crime, but apathy, or glamourising criminality doesn't go any way to stopping, or reducing, it.

IMO its about politics and the justice system the same as the, albeit, negative publicity surrounding our heroes in the Armed Forces...just in time for labour finally to do something in the right direction ready for a general election; or is that a bit too cynical?
