    Default Bad vibrations

HI ALL WONDERED IF ANYONE CAN HELP. RECENTLY BOUGHT A 2006 1.9 CDTI 120 VECTRA LIFE. SINCE CHANGING THE WHEELS FOR THE 17 INCH SRI WHEELS I HAVE NOTICED THAT WHEN DRIVING BETWEEN 40 AND 50 I CAN HEAR A HUMMING NOISE, VERY SIMILAR TO THE SOUND OF A SHOT WHEEL BEARING. HAD THEM CHECKED AND THEY ARE OK AND ALSO REPLACED THE FRONT TYRES DUE TO BEING WORN OUT. ALSO WHEN DRIVING ROUND SOFT BENDS I FEEL A SLIGHT VIBRATION THROUGH THE WHEEL MORE SO WHEN STEERING RIGHT. THANKS

It has all been done twice , i work in a tyre shop, and done it all myself. That is what i thought it was. Might have to bite the bullet and drive it into the garage. Hopefully nothing major. Drives great other than that. Thanks anyway.

What specification (brand, size, etc) of tyres are fitted?
What tyre pressures are in use?

Have the replacement alloys wheels been checked for true running?
Where did you obtain the replacement wheels from?

What type of machine do you have for balancing?
What options do you have for weight setting? (ie 5g, 2.5g, or 1g)
What type of weights are you using?
Were the tyres aligned to the valves? (red dot)
Where on the wheel are you fitting the weights? (white dot)

It is quite unusual to get vibration through the steering wheel at less than 50mph if it is simply balancing
I would therefore suggest arranging for the car to be placed on a ramp and drive the wheels to determine where the noise is coming from

Thread first penned in Aug 2009. One would hope the problem has been sorted by now, or he's sold the car.
