    Default BSR vs Custom remap

Hi i know theres probly loads of threads about this sort of thing but i really dont no what to do, i hear Bsr are the best but what sort of figures would i get out of a custom remap because personally i think the bsr option is very high priced compared to a normal remap, so what im asking really is what are the average figures for the bsr and the custom(if anyones had it done that is) thankx peeps

I know I'm biased as I voted BSR. The BSR maps are in fact customised for the particular VX model concerned using the manufacturer's own maps as a base. In terms of suitability there is no advantage going to a 'custom remapper', but a custom remapper can work out cheaper BUT statistically with a custom remapper there is a higher risk of the remap not being what you expected or were promised.

BSR Stage 1 costs about £600. Other remappers go from about £350 upwards. As Rich says, ring them for a quote. Using the search facility on here you will find threads put up by those who have had remaps carried out by the companies Rich mentioned, and others.

Be careful with custom maps. Off the shelf maps from reputable suppliers can be far better in the end.

Not at all. Reputable remappers like BSR insist that your car has been properly serviced, has no warning lights and is running properly, as the remap is designed to work with the manufacturer's stock engine, not one that may have been 'fettled' with, or on top of a previous remap, or other 'tuning'.

Remaps improve the efficiency of the engine which has been designed to work within set limits, but the manufacturers often have chosen to set their working limit somewhat below the maximum practicable limit. This 'detuning' may actually be responsible for what you refer to as 'flaws', and which may be overcome by remapping the engine.

A remap takes advantage of this additional 'headroom'. The driveability of the car following a remap should be noticeably improved, more responsive, with improved more linear acceleration and less 'lag'. This should be the case with both custom and off the shelf remappers.
