    Default Indicators turning themselves off.

    Hi Guys,

I have had my Vectra for 11 months & Iam now getting fed up with my Evans Halshaw shrugging their shoulders at the problems with indicators which turn themselves off whenever they fancy it. All I get from them is that all Vectras are quite temperamental & we have tried it & it seems ok to us !

Has anyone else had these problems with indicators & any ideas on how to solve the problem?

You do know they have a 3 flash if you press it down, hold it down and they stay on until you let go, press right down for the self cancelling "normal" type of use.

If you know this then have they calibrated the cim?

are you on about if you do a half second touch they will turn off after indicating 3 or 4 times..... or a longer touch where they stay on and cant get them off even if you indicate the other way.

Yes, it was publicised as intended for lane changing when the 'C' came out. Took me quite a while to get used to them, but I do like them. They are also useful when making rapid or 'sweeping' exits off a roundabout, where there is no need for a prolonged indication.

I even used to mimic it by lightly touching the stalk on my ex-girlfriend's Astra 'G', to produce a single flash. Sad, I know. Probably thought I was still in my Vectra.

Yeah - the short-touch is great for short indications on roundabouts, motorway etc, but I find getting them to stay on longer can be a pain and often find myself giving the indicator a very firm second press.

Then they don't always seem to go off once you're round the corner.

If you press again in same direction they do usually cancel though if they've not already done so automatically.

I think whoever designed these at Vauxhall must have been on something at the time.

The problem with the short 3-flash is that it cannot be stopped once it's been initiated, and if you try and cancel it by turning the stalk in the opposite direction the ones on the other side start flashing instead. Vectra 'C's are often seen indicating one way and then the other for that very reason. Happened to me quite a lot till I got used to them.

I believe that BMW were either the first or one of the first manufacturers to have the 2-way indicators. VX said they would be better/improved on the facelift, but were they?

They can be turned off midway through the 3-flash thing. The problem is often that if you try to cancel just as the 3-flash cycle is ending you get 3 flashes the other way.

As for the original question, I get the same. When on full/self-cancel mode, often a slight turn of the wheel (much less than the self-cancel amount) will turn them off. Usually happens to me when approaching a roundabout and signalling right. This has been reported/discussed before - some on here have had CIMs replaced for it, but it is almost impossible to replicate at the dealers - you need to experience it over time - but it is annoying.
