    Default leaky leaky leaky :(

    righteo

    got a 1.9 cdti 150 on an 05 plate.

car's had flywheel done just before I bought it and has almost 99k on the clock, ive done 3k in it.

    theres oil coming out everywhere

I had 1 drip of oil coming off that big black plastic tray, nearish the front.

poked about under the bonnet and found spray coming from bottom edge of vac pump, thoroughly cleaned the mating surfaces and replaced the gasket (£3.87 for the gasket plus a splash of redex for the clean-up)

as far as I can tell, the leaking from there has stopped.

I went *ahem* greenlaning *ahem* in it, and might have possibly rubbed part of the underbelly on something when traversing a particularly large gulley...

oil leak is back, this time dripping from the back edge of the tray, seems to be covering most of the back of the engine and not coming from the vac pump. There is a tiny little line of what looks like wet oil in the join of the cam cover with the head on the front of the engine right next to the vac pump, but the oil is not running down the front of the engine.

Oil leaks most when I have driven it hard for a while, might loose a cup and a half of oil like that on a 20 mile run (interestingly it doesnt actually seem to go anywhere until I've parked and then over the course of 10 mins that cup and a half goes sploosh all over the drive), hardly leaks at all if I drive it gentle so I don't think I fubarred the sump.

I am wondering if the rocker cover gasket has gone bye bye on the rear of the engine? the other (and much more costly) posibilty that I thought of was a nackered turbo

    What thinks ye?

    look forward to your thoughts.

PS vectras, even though FWD, make pretty darn good offroaders!

    Just a quickie...

I'm expecting that the leak is coming from rocker cover gasket (will check tonight)

Fitter chappy at VX main dealer in Chichester recons you can't get the rocker cover off without taking the cambelt off.... That sounds like bull to me!

anyone got any experience in changing rocker cover gaskets on the 1.9CDTi 150??

Looks like I might be making a HOW2 for it anyhow...

    OK!

Just spent an hour and a bit under my car getting soaked right through to my boxers (its raining a lot)

took off the big plastic tray from under the engine bay (how many ******* screws???) and spent 30 mins cleaning up the residue from the last oil leak the car had - Vac pump gasket

Good news is that as far as I can tell there is no more oil coming from the top of the engine so the rocker cover gaskets *should* be OK.

Other good news is that I have actually found what the oil is dripping out of.

bad news is that I have absolutely NO IDEA what it is!

Please see below pictures and help me identify what's gone wrong!

The offending part is a little round metal tube poking out the bottom of a round thingy that's attached to the back of the engine at a funny angle.

oil is coming out of the inside of the tube, not running down the outside.

hopefully labels on the images should help....

Any help identifying the problem would be most appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Bappy

    Oil on undertray:

    Sounds familiar.

I hope it's not but isn't that a sign that the turbo may be on it's way out???

Have you had any drop off in performance?????

    thanks guys.

looking at it I would have thought it looks like filter housing... only had the car 2 months so haven't done oil change to know for 100% certain... im pretty sre its not a turbo problem, I wrapped my fingers around the little pipe for several minutes and have thus proven that the oil is coming OUT of the pipe, not running around it. I need to know what this pipe is for, should oil come out of it? if its a pointles piece of pipe I'll just clean it up and block it up with some chemical metal filler. normally though, such pipes are not pointless and should have some random hose attached to them...

    help!!!

    thanks guys.

That pipe on the 1.9 CDTi is from the oil filter housing for allowing oil to drain out in a controlled manner (rather than out of the end of the housing and all over everywhere ) when removing the filter during an oil change. Check that the filter housing is tight (32mm hexagon on the end) and if so, maybe one of the filter seals has gone west or not even been installed after an oil change.

The filter on the 1.9CDTi is just a filter insert which is fitted in the housing, not a complete sealed 'screw on' unit.

Pete! cheers pal I was thinking along those lines...

If I buy a new filter from Halfrauds will it come with all the seals? Or does someone happen to have the part numbers for VX parts counter?
