    Default Problem with Traction Control?

    Hi,

I think i have a problem with the traction control on my GSI. The wheels spin freely when I accerelate hard which I just noticed when I drove off on some gravel - no sign of the traction control holding the wheels back and no flashing traction control light. Nothing else gives me an indication there is a fault. The traction control light comes on when the ignition is turned on and then goes out, and the light does not come on at any other time to indicate there is a fault. I'm hoping someone might be able to give a clue as to what might be wrong.
    Thanks a lot guys!

Have you changed the tyres recently?
How much tread is on the tyres?

Traction control is fairly useless on gravel, retest on a dry road surface

Find an empty car park and compare with ON and OFF
The difference is quite staggering, if you really push the car, with tyres screaming with it OFF!

Hi, Does it not come into action unless the wheels spin really hard then on normal roads?
The front tyres were changed about 4 months ago and the rears about two weeks ago. The wheels do spin on roads(slightly), when accelerating hard (not booting it really, really hard), but no sign of traction control. I'll test it again properly on a road with my auto box in manual mode and really boot it.

    Thanks

The Traction Control can be a little fickle sometimes
It can be activating, but the warning light stays off
If you boot it hard, the Traction Control activiates, but very rarely does the warning light come on
In extreme cases where the Traction Control calls on the ESP the Traction Control warning light flashes very fast
This is usually caused where the car is entering oversteer and the Traction Control has requested one of the rear brakes be applied
