    Default Funny Smell from Airvents

After reading the recent thread about smelly aircon, i've got a similar kind of problem.

When I'm running around with the aircon on, the air smells fresh and clean, but when I turn the aircon off, the cool air that come out smells rank. If I turn the heater up, the smell goes away.

I've used one of those aerosol air con cleaners, and although the aircon now smells nicer, this smell is still there when I use the air from outside.

    Any Ideas?

Had this problem on my old astra, and it turned out to be a collection of gunk in the bottom of the screenwash bottle that absolutely stunk the car out. Might be worth a free look before you start spending out anything as a good clean with a hose did the trick!

    But was it changed????

For the sake of a couple of minutes, you may as well check it yourself!

    Follow this HOW2.

Also check you are clear of rotting leaves etc just in front of the filter, there is also a drain hole there as well! Check that's clear .

    I reckon, it wasn't changed.

I change my filter once a year, not the 2 years that VX suggest!!

Also do the air con bomb treatment then, no more nasty niffs!

Big Sig: I used one of those and as I said, the aircon smells nice but the normal vented smell is rank.

John C S: I know it was changed, becuase I bought it along with the other service parts, and I have a mobile guy that comes and does the work for me. I will however be checking it out like you say for rotting leaves etc.

    Cheers

Possibly the rotting leaves then. Sorry, assumed perhaps VX Dealer serviced it, not a decent reliable mechanic!

Sorry, misread your post. It should get rid of that smell. Try putting the heater on, not re-circ, remove the pollen filter and spray some anti bac spray into where you can see the fan. It will then circ this anti bac through the heater matrix.
