    Default Help on electrical problems....please

    Hi,

I have a 54 plate CDTi bought 3 months ago. In need of some advice re some niggles -

    1. When the key is out the ignition, the mileage display remains lit all the time. Is this normal?

    2. To open the boot I have to shut all doors, lock them then open them again, which is pretty annoying to say the least. Is this normal?

    3. The windows can be opened and closed when the key is out off the ignition which seems kinda strange. Is this the norm too?

    4. When the fuel tank is totally full, the guage only registers 3/4 full.

    All help and advice appreciated.

    Cheers!

1: No, it should go out after a set time - not long - but it comes on when you unlock the doors.

2: Is it a vectra with a key hole in the boot? If it is then the lock can be left in dofferent positions so it doesn't unlock with the doors, is unlocked all the time etc. It could be that?

3: Yes thats normal, they stay active for 10 mins or something or until you lock the doors.

4: Sounds like the sender in the tank could be faulty.

Do you have a manual with the car? I'd advise having a look in there as the vectras have a few useful features that are detailed in there

    Cheers Big Sig!

    Yes -

    1. Mileage display remains lit permenantly. Drives me crazy.

    2. No keyhole in the boot. Have to use the buttons on the key. Which means if I want to get into the boot, I have to lock all the doors from the key then open all the doors again, just to get the boot to work. It's not handy.

    3. Hmm, my windows are active all the time with no ignition. Must be a fault.

    4. Will get the sender checked out.........as well as the other probs.

    Thanx!

Do you have to press your remote once to open the drivers door and twice for all the other doors, fuel filler, and boot?

If so, then maybe you've only pressed the remote once, which would mean the boot will still be locked until you either press the remote again, or lock/unlock via the buttons on the door panel.

Thinking further about your boot problems. If you've not had the car from new, could someone have replaced the remote fob? Changed it from a 3 button to a 2 button one?

I can't remember when Vauxhall stopped using the auto-locking for the boot once the car went above 5 mph. My Jan 04 registered 53 reg had it, along with a 3 button fob, if that's any help.

Basically what I've thinking is that maybe your Vectra still has the auto-locking boot?

Yes, once for drivers door and twice for the rest, but even when it's been pressed twice the boot will not open without pressing the lock all doors button then pressing the open button twice.

The boot must be auto locking but isn't keen on opening . Am dreading the day when it refuses to open at all. Will probably have it full of frozen food amd fresh meat knowing my luck

If you've got a boot open button on the door panel then you should have a three button remote, not two.

Ok I have just checked mine and if you do not lock the car, even after 1/2 hour the windows still work in mine, never had a problem though... I guess this is also normal?
