    Default Vectra Life "Upgrade"

Hi, I am new to the forum and wondered if anyone can help. I have an August 2007 Vectra 1.8VVT Life which I bought in May 2008 (got a great deal from a car supermarket). I like the way the car drives, it's a good size. What bothers me is that the more expensive trim versions (e.g. Design, Exclusiv and of course SRI) look a lot better for the follow reasons (in order of my preference):

    No alloys
    Black plastic door handles
Amber (as opposed to clear) indicators at the back and sides
No chrome strip along the side

Subject to cost I would like to address some or all of these issues. The indicators seem easy to get hold of, I have found a supplier on another thread on these forums.

Can the black plastic handles simply be painted as they are or are new different ones required?

Alloys - not into anything fancy and would like to keep the same tyre size (205/55 16). Would like wheels to look original i.e. have the same ones from a Design or Exclusiv, maybe from a breakers.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi mate,

Door handles can be primed and sprayed and shouldn't cost much whatsoever so no need for new ones. Just make sure they are done properly to avoid them flaking and wearing. A decent body shop will know what to do. I'd guess around £80 but at least look on ebay for handles just encase there are any for sale the right price.

Chrome strip on ebay for £20 for 8 metres. Ask the body shop if they would do it same time as the handles. Saves you the bother of getting it wrong!
You'll get a set of SRi wheels for around £400 with reasonable tyres but could even get these VXR reps with tyres for £550 ish.

But on the other hand SRi's are selling for ridiculous prices at the min so why not trade in without all the bother?

    Hope it goes ok
    Rory

    Hi mate,

I'm in the process of upgrading and changing my 08 plate "Life" silver star model.

Below is what i've done so far, all of which is relatively inexpensive:

Side indicator lights changed from orange to clear. Cost approx £8
Rear light clusters changed from orange to SRI tinted ones. Cost approx £40
    Window tints. Cost £100
Chrome strip below windows. Cost £15
Parrot MKI 9200 fitted. Cost £240 (supplied and fitted).
Chrome door handles (not covers) Cost £70.
    Sunglass holder. Cost £12.
Philips Power Xtreme Headlight bulbs. Cost £20
    Mtec sidelights. Cost £8.
Debadges at rear and sides. Cost NIL.

All that i've to do now is get a set of 17"alloys... probably paying about £400 for those.

So as you can see, it doesn't necessarily cost a lot to change the car to what you want.

    Vehicle : Vectra C

    Trim : Energy

    Engine : Z19DTH

    Year : 2005

    Mileage : 131,000

    Default

I have done quite a few upgrades on a Vectra Energy which is a bit of a mish-mash of different specs

The upgrades I did were: -

Fit centre armrest with cup holders, rear charger point, ash-tray and air-vents (The air vents wont blow out much air though).

    Fit map-lights and sunglasses holder.

Convert rear fogs from Off-side only working to both fogs lights working - just requires one link wire.

Front Foglights - Need to wire this in separate from the cars loom as there is some wiring missing somwhere between the light switch and the body control module..Vauxhall will not give ANY assistance here!!

Changed radio from Basic CD30 with Clock display to CD70 Navi with colour map display

I prefer to enhance interior comfort and convenience rather than making the car exterior look attractive to robbing scrotes!!

Remember also that some insurance companies will hike up your premiums for making your car more desirable. Assuming that you declare any changes...which you should if you don't want your cover to be voided.
