    Default Quick detailing advice please

    Hi guys

I've met several of you detailers (Lump, Scott and Phil) and you each kindly gave me some advice about getting my car sorted - which I appreciated but I need a quick re-cap as my memory isn't great thanks to Mr Carlsberg!

Basically, I'm getting married weekend after next and my car is a bit of a state with a few light scratches and some paint splatter (off the road) up the side which I need to get rid of. Phil helped me find something that worked on the paint splatter, which was Poorboys SSR (I'm getting some SSR 2.5 to get rid of the swirling as well), but I just need to put together a quick shopping list so I can have a go at it this weekend.

So, first off I need a list of stuff for an absolute detailing beginner, who is on a tight budget... and secondly I would like some application guidance. Finally, can someone please recommend somewhere I can buy the products that will deliver to me next day - assuming it comes from an online shop.

In terms of the detailing, I think the order is:

    1. Wash
    2. Use swirl compound
    3. Wash
    4 Use polish
    5 Use wax

... but I might be completely wrong here.

I do have an old machine polisher... but would need some new buffing pads for it. I also bought some micro-fibre towels and a mitt recently.

    Thanks in advance chaps.

    I would recomend.
    1) wash
    2)clay
    3)wash
    4)paint cleaner
    5)swirl removal polish
    6)polish (if needed)
    7)wax or sealent
That is what I would do if starting from scratch so to speak.
You could also apply a sealent before you put the wax on, wax always goes on after a sealent as a sealent will not bond to a wax if the wax is applied first.
    Hope this is some help.

Dependant on had bad your swirls are, TBH you are only likely to be able to 'remove' them using a machine to polish - by hand you're best bet is to mask them with something along the lines of AG SRP or PB Blackhole (which works well on reds too).

Have a look on www.elitecarcar.co.uk if you put in vectrac in the discoount box you will get some off the price, might be about 10% I forget.
There are many wax,s to choose from. But Colinite 915 seems to be one of the longest lasting.
I am trying out a sealent called KP1000P it is made by Finish Kare. I must admit I am very impressed with it so far.
But one of my favorite wax,s has to be Victoria Concours Wax. I think it is brilliant on my Star Silver motor.

Tips on applying Colinite. I would suggest applying it to one panel at a time. That is applying it not too thick, then rubbing it off when it has hazed over. Don,t leave it too long before you remove it as it can be a bit of a pig to get off. I have been known to go over all of the car, then when you get to the last part to remove it has very hard to remove. If you want to put a second coat or so on, then you will need to wait 24 hours for the previous coat to "cure", as the solvents in the next coat will remove the previous coat.
