Driving back from MPG through the long sweeping country lanes from Middlewich to Cheadle last night, i just couldn't help thinking... is this thing really only a 1900cc?? Cause it feels like a 'V' engine!!
So the map? Well i had a full 80,000 mile service at the time, then the map went on easily. Apparently it does lots of clever things, like keeping the DMF cleaner (think? got lost in jargon), and ability to by pass the EGR if i ever need to etc. There are two maps, a 430nm and a 450nm torque, ive been given the later.
It is ferociously fast in the mid range, over taking speed is nutty quick to me.. is definately quicker than my old 3.0 GSi now for sure. Probably not on the high end, but who can go there nowadays..... That said, on a number of occassions last night i went over 100mph without realising.
All i can say is, regardless of figures, ive been driving for 13 years now, in that time of the hotter cars ive had a 3.1 tuned xr4x4, a stage 3 RS cosworth, numerous V6 vectras (last being a 3.0 240bhp) and a Monaro..... this diesel now rates very respectably in with these cars to me.... which i thought id never say! Now im not saying its as fast or faster than any or each of them, but its certainly easier to put down the power, and much more usable.... Its wierd, on the motorway, all that torque in a big vauxhall feels a little reminisant of my old Monaro! Now dont shoot me.. im not saying its the same... just reminisant......
I just had no idea a 1.9 diesel could be such a fast car..... its amazing how technology has changed!
Tell you what, suddenly my 19inch wider wheels & Eibachs make more sense... fast corners, and accelerating out of them... they are a perfect match to the map!
More to come when ive done more miles than the 50 or so ive done so far
