glow plug relay and glow plugs

Have just had vectra 1.9 cdti to garage to get spanner warning light diagnosis the result was that the glow plug relay is sticking and needs reopacing together with all 4 glow plugs. Am reluctent to spend the £300 quoted
does anybody know it this is a job that can be done at home and if so where is the relay and how do i go about it and the glow plugs

any advice welcomed

You can DIY for about £80 odd if you're anywhere decent with spanners.Don't know where relay is ,i'll see if i can find it in Haynes.give me a minute.

Looks like they're not sure on what wrong so are just changing everything! Glow plugs are approx £20 a pop so £80 IF the plugs are faulty, normally its only one or two and the relay approx £30 i'd say.

changing the glow plugs is normally a matter of unplugged the lead from the end and then using a 10mm deep reach socket to remove them (think its a 10mm, and also squirt some wd40 on the plugs to loosen them, when the engine is cold though)

as for changing the glow plug relay as whats his name above said, need to check on that..

edit: Glow plug relay/control unit.. Its near/on the battery, think it hangs off of it. Its metal about 3-4inchs rectangle and has 'alloy fins' on it

Glow plug relay....Look under the bonnet and it's positioned near the battery on the right hand side of the engine bay as u look at it,silver box,about £30 from dealer,set of glows you can get for£30 or £40 from the bay hth.
