    Default Front End

    Morning All.

2002 SRi DTI. Under heavy braking (particularly at higher speeds), I am getting vibrations through the front end and up through the steering wheel. The general ride is also 'rough' or certainly rougher than it was. I am also seeing some tyre scrub to the inside of the offside front tyre. I've had a quick look but can't see anything obvious but I am leaning towards shocks - but am really not sure. Any suggestions?

    Cheers, Ade

it could be a whole load of things, all of which will be covered under warranty if its still valid.

Shocks is one, but also consider play in the track rod ends, anti roll bar bushes, ball joints etc. A flat spotted tyre could also cause virbration. Whatver it is, it needs checking by a garage.

Thanks for that. I had a quick check of bushes and 'stuff' but nothing stood out. I've got it going into a local place that I've used before later today, was just interested if anybody had any thoughts.

I thought about that too. I'm not sure if I'd get a feeling of 'riding' throught the pedal or not. Maybe somebody else does? I have looked at them about a month ago when I had another issue with the brakes and didn't notice any visible to the eye mis-shape of the disc.

If the disc's are warped you wouldn't spot it with your eye's.. and they would give exactly the pedal flutter you describe as 'riding' through the pedal..

Yeah I thought I would get that feeling - I don't though so I'm reasonably happy that it's in the suspension set-up somewhere.

Worst case, it could be the CV joints..... have you lowered the car or done anything with the suspension, as this can force the CV joints out of line and cause this sort of symptom (Happened on a mates Corsa - so the Vec is probably too sturdy for this kind of thing, but you never know).
