    That is pricey !!!

    I've just joined the AA.

The AA may be the 4th Emergency Service to its members, and may be the first company people think of, but personally, I don't like the AA at all, and avoid them where possible.

They are cutting down more and more on their own staff/vehicles, and sub-contracting more of their work to local recovery companies.

This is what Green Flag do too, and that's fine, but the point I'm making is - if you are likely to be recovered by the same man with the same tools whether it's the AA or Green Flag, then why are the AA so much more expensive. Are there extra benefits that I haven't understood? I see it as greed based on their big brand name.

Off topic - I used to have my insurance with the AA. They are just a broker, and the actual company I was with was Highway (I think). One day some muppet smashed my mirror off outside my house, I wasn't even in the car. Thankfully, he was good enough to knock the door and tell me.

He admitted fault, but out of courtesy, I told my insurance company (AA), just in case something came back on me. They told me if I wished to make a claim, then I had to phone Highway directly, and had a letter confirming this about two weeks later (the car was sorted by then anyway). I was annoyed that for £550 a year, they weren't really doing anything for their money except answering the phone and giving me the phone number of another company to phone. Highway would have done all the work, should I have had to claim.

I think the days are numbered for the AA....

A lot of Banks offer 'special' accounts with benefits (for a charge). I'm paying £10 a month for mine (£120 per annum). With this I get free Green Flag cover, which is worth about £90 in itself. There's a whole host of other things chucked in like mobile phone insurance, emergency home insurance - which repaired my central heating boiler when it packed up (saving me £400). These accounts are worth looking in to. I see it as just paying for breakdown cover, as I was paying more than £120 when I was with the AA, and everything else is a bonus.

is that including the brekdown insurance cover. we took it out as part of the full package and it says the aa (or they're insurance) will cover the cost of any repairs including parts and labour upto 500 pounds, and this can be claimed upto 5 times a year!
so if you have a car thats starting to play up then 200 quid isnt so bad
