Default Losing dashboard dials when or after rain.

I have been finding recently that after a rain storm and when its raining my engine management light comes on and and I lose all the dials and lights on the instrument panel (apart from the battery and ABS light which then come on).

If I pull over and turn off the ingnition and then restart then it starts working again but does sometimes go again.

The car continues to drive perfectly.

It seems to me like water is ingressing into something and causing the issue.

Is this a known problem or has anyone experienced this and know the cause.

You could check the ABS plug mate, if it gets wet or dirty it can cause the same symptoms. The plug is behind the battery, its the last unit before the bulkhead (the one with all the metal pipes coming out of it) The plug is the huge one on the top, pull the lock out to one side and the plug should lift off. Thanks for that suggestion, just pulled the plug off and it all looks pretty clean and dry inside.

I will check again just after it has rained and see whats what.

    Any other suggestions.

Seriously, as Rushy said have your tried using switch contact cleaner? Try the plug at the back of the cluster next.

Your vec falls into a year when there was a fault with the abs plug, think its was that the contacts weren't large enough, so and dirt or moisture would cause it to fail. Mine looked fine dry and clean when I had problems, I used wd40 and over the last 2-3 years have not had one problem since.

Right I'll give it a bit of a spray with WD40.

Where is the other plug you mentioned Steve.

    Cheers

Steve's referring to the connector plug on the back of the instrument binnacle
