When you're driving any type of occupational vehicle, you may be asked to stop by a police officer or a Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) enforcement support officer. They can stop both public service vehicles and heavy goods vehicles. Both have the power to carry out spot checks on your vehicle and issue prohibitions if they are necessary.
A VOSA officer will pull you over in the same way a police officer would. VOSA officers wear yellow visibility jackets that clearly display the VOSA logo and they will always carry an official VOSA warrant. They will also use vehicles marked with a black and yellow print on the side and a VOSA logo on the bonnet.
What if I fail to stop?
Under the Road Traffic Act, failing to stop when a uniformed inspector orders you to do so is an offence. The details of the incident will be noted, and later you will be interviewed and you may face either court action and/or a report passed on to the Traffic Commissioner.
