different forces have different actions to be taken some still fine some make you remove your tint at the roadside and others procecute for vehicle in a dangerour condition

    rule of thumb as below

but the vehicle must leat at least 70% of natural light though the front windows (screen and b pillar forwards) beyond that you can go as dark as you like

I got pulled for my tints on the M62 about 2 years ago, copper tested them and they were at 52% and not the required 70%, gave me a £30 fine and that was it, not done anything about it and not been stoped for the tints since, been stopped for other things since and coppers have not even took any notice of the tints. Think i was just unlucky to pass a copper that didnt like cars with tints as he told me i was his 3rd that day!!

obviously shortly after the traffic cars were issued with "tintman" devices

i got done about 2 months ago firstly they must have a light meter they cant just turn up and do you, i had a light tint on front windows picked up a £30 fine, thats a 35% tint plus medium all round, as a rule of thumb most company's wont entertain doing front windows for you but if you ask them on quiet they will do it but you'll have no come back....anything darker and you will receive a fine plus penalty points or they will ask you to peel them off ( i would rather drag them to court as in my eyes its bullying) i can tell you for a fact as the copper told me they only have 2 meters in northeast area, so chances are you'll never get pull....fact is the ***** were playing snooker and i was driving a black car heard his mate on radio he wasnt even interested in seeing any docs

if you're going to draw attention to yourself... what does it matter how the officer chose to stop you..? fact is - police can stop anyone they like (check sec 163 RTA for details)

fact is - tints on fronts are dangerous - particularly at night... how would you feel if you took someone off a bike because you couldn't see them...?

'They make the car look good' is possibly not the most succesful defence following a collision.

OP - you may get a £30 ticket... or you may get a pg9 prohibition on your car for being in a dangerous condition... (which you may be able to talk your way out of if you remove them there and then.) Or you may get anything inbetween... It's obviously your choice if you want to chance it, but in my opinion you have no right to moan if it goes wrong

is that the "traffic officers" you have down in Englandshire on M6 etc? Everyone slows down to the speed limit thinking its the coppers and fly past them in my Vectra

We don't have them up in Scotland I don't think.
