hi guys do you know how hard or easy it is to fit a multi function display from an sri into a non sport model do you know if it is a straight plug and play
If it is a pre 2004 (half can-bus) head unit then there is a how 2 saying from bid to gid by bigmac...MFD should be similar (I assume that the term MFD is only used for early spec units).
If it is a 2004 onward (CD30, CDC40 or CD70), then it should be mostly plug and play. All display units use the same grey 34 pin plug, just the lower spec ones have most of the pins missing as they don't use them.
Either way tech 2 will be required to : -
1) Match / pair up the display to the head unit for pre 2004 units (on ISO plugs) or
2) To marry the new display to the car and head unit (quadlock plugs).
hi m8 thanks mine came with the cd30 headunit which i have now replaced with a flip out dvd screen i want to convert the display so i can get the trip computer up can this be done as i tried to wire in a set of fogs but couldn't be done on tech 2 even tho i connected up to the original harness
That is quite normal....there is usually part of the loom to the fogs missing...but Vx won't tell you where this should be as they "do not promote or encourage owners to modify or alter their vehicles" as one parts man told me.
If you take the light controlled feed from your cig lighter, run this to your switch and then onto a relay. you can use the relay to control your fogs.
If you are okay with wiring, then check out armoured farmers fog light thread.
Regarding the cd30 - info display, you may need to temporarily fit the cd30...get someone to tech 2 in the GID or similar display so that the car will see it, then revert back to your aftermarket head unit.
hope that helps...I up-specced from the clock display to gid then onto cid (cid will need a compatible head unit like the cd70)...just by plug n play with the tech 2 of course.
regards,
Rob
hi robsey thanks for this all i did was run a length of wire from the fogs to fuse at the battery then run them 2 a switch in the dash just above the alarm button works a treat.
As for the gid not sure if i will put it in as its a nightmare 2 put the aftermarket one back in as i have 2 7" screens wired in2 the headunit aswell
Just common sense but please ensure that the switch is upto driving the fogs....I would recommend using a relay for handling the necessary current.
For anyone who would like to know this...front fogs are considered as supplementary lights, and as such are not part of the mot inspection.
However if you are pedantic, normally it should only be possible to switch them on when the side lights are on.
You will notice however that the fog lights don't really provide that much illumination.....unless you are one of those boy racer types who drive round with side lights and front fogs...when visibilty is okay.(more than 100 yards).
For the "grumpy bit"...this is illegal as it is considered to be mis-use of vehicle lighting.
lecture over!!!
They are if the lenses are cracked or broken and pose a risk to Joe Public.

hi guys the lenses are fine as they are brand new i have wired mine in so they don't ciome on with any other lights as they run off an independent switch which is run off the battery with a 20 amp fuse runnin from that before it goes to the lights then they have been bridged
hi guys there is nothing wrong with the lenses as they are brand new and i have wired them in independently to a switch in the car and they are run off the battery with a 20 amp fuse comin from that before they go dwn to the lights which are bridged check out the pics in my other thread latest additions
