    Unhappy Temperature Stops my Tacho???

Have a problem - it does not make sense to me so I hope someone can help!!!!

My 1997 Vectra 2.0l Diesel was running Ok until 2 days ago

Now its got to a point that today I broke down in the middle of the road!

Well you wont beleive me but here is what happens.........

When cold the engine starts and runs and idles OK.......... off we go and as the engine warms up the tachometer drops to zero (stops) and when idleing the engine hunts (revs up and down but carried on running) at high speed it keeps going normally (untill today when it just cut out)

I dont understand why does the tacho stop and the engine start revving up and down ( the only time I have seen this with other diesel engines there haas been air in the system - cant see any leaks)

Why when the engine cools everything goes back to normal and the engine idles as normal at 600-700 rpm eith the tacho working again?

Thought it may be that there is a tacho sender on the pump and the seals on the connection had gone - when I checked - no sender - Haynes says that the speed is sensed by the crankshaft sender (that I replaced at christmas)

    AAny ideas anyone ppppplease........

    Pete

Thanks guys - someone else has said that...........

But how would that be temperature dependant?

    How can I test it?

Replaced it at the beginning of December last year - do they fail that quick? got it from my local motor factors (LT Motors) - if I replace it again whats the best make?

Aany other comments appreciated as I am off the road and dare not go out in it in case it packs up again ---- getting desperate and fed up with this vectra

    Thanks tho

    Talking ThAN YOU EVERYONE

I would like to thank everyone that helped me with this problem

You were right - I will never buy a "Motorequip" sender again - rang around and there seems to be a lot of none original parts about and that is the cause of all my troubles! I eventually found a spares place in Darlington that had the Bosch part at £41 - fitted it and all the problems went away

You were all right - the temperature thing was just a red herring

It starts and runs like a dream.......

THANKS...... THANKS TO ALL WHO TOOK THE TIME AND TROUBLE TO HELP ME

    much appreciated
    Pete
