    Default Rear Fog Light

JUst read on another forum about the mk5 Astra only having one rear foglight & modding it to have a second the other side & someone mentioned they know the Vec C only has one fog light.
I've never given it a thought & can't be bothered to go & look but is this true???

    Tis true.

There is the arguement that a car should only have 1 fog light so not to be confused with the brake lights whilst driving in foggy conditions.

I believe you can run a wire between your lights and get the other fog light to work.

I also believe that is a brake light fails, one of the other lights is used instead (I think I read this somewhere, maybe I dreamt it)

    Cheers

Yep, you're right Ben. The Vec has just the one foglight. It's not them being tight, it's a EU thingy about safety. To distinguish, as said above, between brake and fog lights.

You can stick a wire from the other side to light it up, but why bother? I 'think' if you do that you also mess up the bulb failure warning, and possibly the other feature mentioned i.e. a different bulb coming on if a brake light fails (you weren't dreaming it Damian! lol)

Tight fisted. Ah well, not like it ever gets driven when it's gonna be an issue.
Don't know about this EU thingy though, couldn't really care, if they can see my fog lights they can see me.

Where's the bulb that takes over, as I obviously need to check this out.

All the bulbs in the back are 21W. The car pulses the volts to generate the correct brightness for the tail light, therefore it can control this bulb to make it a brake light. It could in fact make any of the bulbs do what it wants but colour of bulbs and the lens colour limits this.

My SRI tells you when a bulb is out with a nice picture using the colour display. Once you clear the display warning a reminder light is displayed on the lcd in the speedo area.
