    Unhappy Slow 2.2

Can anyone help with a problem i am having with my 03 2.2 sxi
I have noticed that the top end accelaration is very flat and gutless.
It feels like a 1.2 corsa not a 2.2 vectra.

I fitted a K&N panel filter and new plugs[DENSO ITV 16] Which made it a lot
    smoother by the way.
The car has only done 28.000 miles.

Ihave checked that the brakes all free and all is fine.

Any ideas would be most welcome.

    Thanks.
    Superbird.

take the panel filter off, refit the orginal plugs, make sure they are gapped correctly and see if its any better.

the 2.2 isnt slow, but its not going to leave smoking tyre marks at the traffic lights either. Is it really slow or are you looking at the speedo? How long would you guess, very roughly its taking you to get to 60?

Get it to somewhere to check the MAF sensor is reading in range too and your lambdas.

Plugs must be gapped correctly. Are those the right spec'd plugs for you engines? If you don't have a healthy spark, then it won't rev.

    Default Re Slow 2.2

    Thanks for the reply.
Denso are the only iridium plugs i could get for this engine.
Ngk do not list a part number.

I did try with the old plugs back in but it was just the same.

    The car starts fine.

Its when im sitting at between 50-70 and changing down to overtake it
feels like its lacking some oomph.

I have timed 50-70 in 3rd and it takes between 7-8 secs.
I dread to think what the 1.8 must be like?.

Another thing i would like to mention.
I read alot in all the forums that some lads take the air filtter cover off
and inside there is a pipe that sticks out about 2 and a halfe inches.

And to cut this off as it improves air flow!
I wished i had left it alone now.

However once i get round to it ill get it checked out.

    Thanks again.

    Default 0-60

    Hello Andy.
I would say the 0-60 takes about 10-11 secs.

And i always use shell optimax aswell.

    Thanks.

I would get the above sensors checked. Sounds like there could be an air leak or poor airflow.

    Default Re slow 2.2

    Hello again.
When my wife lets me get hold of the car i will get those
    sensors checked.

The Denso Iridium plugs i would recomend as the car is a lot smoother.

Funny thing is i put the standard air filter back in and it seemed to pull
    a bt better?

    Default Slow 2.2

    Hi.
All that i have done to my 2.2 is
As you have done removed the bottom tube in the air box
and cut back the top tube in the airbox lid and fitted a set of Denso ITV16
    sparkplugs plus a k&n fillter.

All this improves the bottom end pickup.
And another thing tht helps is shell v-power fuel.

But i still lack's top end grunt that an engine this size should have.
Perhaps a catback system or a ecu reprogram would help?
    And that is more cash!
    Hope this helps.

    Regards.

I was testing mine last night (only have the bottom tube removed so far) and i was going from 70 to 80 in about 2.5 seconds in 4th. Haven't had chance to test 0-60 yet.. Too many coppers around here and all of our straight roads are 30 roads! I have noticed that the car performs much better just after refuelling... surely this makes the car heavier therefore shouldn't be any faster?? lol

I use v-power most of the time.. if not, then it's tesco's fuel for the clubcard points! lol

I'm glad you mentioned sparks.... where are they on the Vectra C? I can't see em anywhere. We could only find 3 on the Vectra B 2.5 V6. Anyone got any pictures? (of the veccy c, that is)?
