    Default OP-COM faults

Hi all, newbie here, so go easy....

I bought a 1.8 SRi (2003) a month or so ago. After a couple of weeks I got a spanner/car error in the tacho area. Had a good read through your forum and decided to buy an OP-COM reader.

I reset the faults and then took the car out for a spin, not long before the error flashed up. Here are the faults reported upon return:

    Motor type: Z18XE
    Hardware manufacturer system name: SIMTEC71.5
    P1481 - Fan Control 1 Circuit Malfunction
    (06) - Not present

    U2108 - CAN-Bus no Communication with ABS/TC
    (70) - Not present

P0501 - Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction
    (F0) - Not present

U2139 - CAN-Bus No Communication with CIM (Steering Column Module)
    (70) - Not present

From another thread I deduce I need to replace the cooling module. Does anyone have any ideas how to cure any of the other 3?

(On the right hand stalk there is an toggle switch with 'i' for information, I assume this should scroll through the mpg/avg mpg/range but it only ever reports the 'range', not sure whether this is related or not?)

Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

First off I would clean the ABS plug, then take it from there.

Fault one - could be a bad connection on the engine ecu - take plug off and spray with wd40
Fault 2 - could be a bad connection on the abs ecu - take plug off and spray with wd40
the other 2 i would ignore , best to clear the codes and try a scan agin in a weeks time

    Thumbs up

Thanks guys. I sprayed WD40 and that seems to have resolved the ABS module fault, looks like a I need to replace the cooling fan module though.

    Cheers Mark

    Hi Guys

Had a 1483 fault which I believe is cooling related. Started internitently then became continuous. Cleaned fan module connector with good ole wd40 and sprayed plaenty around the fan motors although i'm nopt really sure any managed to find its way down to the bearings. Next I disconected wiring to both fans and connected a 12v battery across each fan. both fans ran up nicely reaching what I assume is full speed. Last but not least I covered the rad with a towel and wedged the accelerator pedal down a bit and left the car running for about 10mins. Eventually the temp got up to an indicated 92degs and both fans kicked in to cool the system.

Had absolutely no effect on the spanner light. Next dat I realised the spanner light had gone and it has only made a brief reappearance lately. Might be worth trying. Not sure if my fault is fully cured yet but cost me nothing to try.

    Good luck

    BJR
