Default V6 Diesel - fuel rail pressure issue

Just has diagnostics back from Vauxhall on my 3.0CDti and they have a 'fuel rail pressure' error.

They are saying that a New suction valve kit may cure it (about £500 fitted) but there's no guarantee it will work in which case it will need a new fuel pump £1,557 +VAT

Problem is that if I go for the suction valve kit and it doesn't work I'll end up paying for the labour twice.

Can anyone offer any advice on whether the suction valve kit is likely to work or any other wise words?

Vauxhall once diagnosed mine as having low fuel pressure, they had the car 5 weeks then told me it MIGHT be the fuel pressure switch about £1000 fitted but they couldn’t guarantee that it would fix the fault, I agreed and it didn’t fix the fault, they then gave me an estimate of over £10,000 to change all the injectors £585 each the injection pump £2134 & the fuel rail £1315. Car has been sat on my drive ever since, starts and runs but smokes like crazy.

Whats was wrong with your in the first instance?

I took mine to the dealers because of the amount of black smoke it was producing?

Sounds a totally different fault to mine, i have never had the spanner light, think thats whats confussing the dealer, well the fact they cant just plug a computer in to find the fault. Hope you have a better outcome than mine.

Have you tried some injector cleaner mate?

Not sure if the egr would have anything to do with it as its only happening when cold.

Is there a loss of power when it stutters? Mine sometimes stutters under light acceleration when cold. Get's better when it warms up.

r.bailey63 when does your car smoke? Only on acceleration or all the time?

loss of power under acceleration and then picks up again but spanner light comes on. Switching off ignition resets light and usually doesn't come back on again.

Haven't tried injector cleaner. How does that work? Is it something you add to the fuel?

The fault has been diagnosed as requiring Vauxhall Field Remedy 1957 !! 6 hrs labour to replace a solenoid (£96 +VAT part) in the fuel pump with no guarantee of success and then if it doesn't work another 6 Hrs labour to replace the fuel pump and the cost of the fuel pump is £1,557 + VAT

    Thinking through my options
