    Default Power Tailgate problems

My Vectra has just had it's 3rd service and first MoT. Whilst there I pointed out a problem with my power gate as it has recently started playing up and getting stuck half way through closing. The other day it took 9 attempts to get it to close.

Do you think it played up in the dealers though, oh no so it's almost as if they don't believe me now.

My warranty runs out at the end of the month so just wondering how I stand and if anyone else has had this problem?

Just got off the phone with my local dealers and VX themselves. Im being told that as they haven't been able to locate the fault then as they can't get the car in before warranty expiry then it won't be covered. Not very impressed, especially as they are already of a fault....

Vx wanted me to hunt around until I found a garage that could get it in before.

i understand your dillema - but any warranty work can only be completed if there is a defect present - my advice to you would be - next time it "sticks" and wont close - leave it in position and get the vehicle recovered to the nearest dealership - they will then have the vehicle in a Failed state and will not be able to give you any argument regarding unable to fault

if its then presented in a failed state within warranty they woudl be able to apply for approval to complete the repairs

Just an idea but when I was cleaning mine recently I managed to knock the two bits of trim on the right hand side boot strut. As a result they became misaligned and then the boot would only close halfway and stick. Took me ages to work out what I'd done. The bits of trim have to line up perfectly otherwise the problem reoccurs.

Thanks for the advice, I've managed to get it in to another garage now so hopefully will play up when they have it. Thanks also for the advice re the trim but I am hoping that the garage would have checked that when they had it last week.

If they are aware of a fault that has been recorded with them and its only happening on a sporadic basis surely the warranty, although expired, shoudl cover this? Especially as it's only just about to expire too, I could understand if the car was 4 or even 5 years old but the warranty is still active for another couple of weeks.

ask the origional garage for a copy of the job card it will have on it the date (within warranty) and that you reported the fault i.e. will say investigate rear tailagate mechanism! this is your proof and will enable a claim after warranty period if needed

    Cool

i've had lots of problems with mine. I had new motors in at around 9months old. just turned three and started to do it again. It is worst when it is parked on the drive at about 12 degrees with the frnt higher than the rear. My dealer couldn't fault it until i got them to lift the front slightly as if parked on a hill.

I had a problem with my DAB unit and like your boot very sporadic. I took it in when it was doing it and they said ok wev'e seen it now book it in, i did. Guess what they said nothing wrong with it because it wouldn't do it then, I explained that I couldn't get it to do it on demand and called Vx CC and they said the same, tough must do it when booked in. Pretty lame i think especcially when they see it doing it.

Hope you get it sorted cause i know what a pain it is when it stops halfway down and it is chucking it down.
