Default good threads on 3.0 diesels??

    Hi guys,

Well the search option won't reconise 3.0 So can any of you remember, or point me in direction of good threads on 3.0 diesels.

I want to know really everything i can about a facelift 3.0 diesel... running manual. Like the spec, performance all round, mpg, any experiences people have had... particularly comparissons with the 1.9 CDTi 150.

Alot of people say not much faster, but looking at it, its 1 sec faster... thats alot it seems??

Also, how does it compare for example with a 3.2?

Whats it like at motorway cruising versus a 1.9?

I know tuning box is bad idea... but how nice do they sound with exhaust done??

Loads of questions, which i guess have already been answered in other posts... i just cant find em!

    Cheers guys!

    Mike

1 second on the road is nothing - to make a difference on the road you would need to be at least 3+ seconds quicker than someone.

1 second can be made or lost on how you change gear, what tyres you have, how in good order your car is, fuel used, anything like that.

With that in mind, would you have a car with essentially the same performance that uses noticeably more juice - which realistically is just because of the sound..?

Don't forget servicing costs etc.... Fair cop about the 150 reliability, but a good one is as solid as anything.

The V6 CDTi's don't like tuning of any description, but a 150 likes a "good" remap (no boxes here) then you have a car quicker than the V6 with the consumption of a 150.

But at the end of the day, it has masses of torque (arguably more important than power...) and you aren't stressing the engine when you're using it.

Besides, I just want a V6, so I can quite rightly put '3.0 V6 Turbo' on the back of it...

I always though 1 sec was alot!

You only need to see the different between say a lamborghini murcelargo standard, and an SV, all that money for 0.5 sec, lots of supercars strive for this sort of difference.....

Or on the trip at santa pod the difference 0.5 or even less of a sec makes.....

Dont get me wrong, i love the 1.9cdti... but theres no theatre with it I love my V6s, not enough to get a 3.2 Vectra C though... (my old 3.0 B was faster!) Just i like the idea of a ahem 'economical' V6!

They both have masses of torque though.... that's what its about, you don't buy a v6 CDTi based on its performance over the 150 but because of its noise and characteristics - the OP seemed to be specifically after a performance increase.

I was after performance, and went straight for the V6, but after trying them back to back with the 150 (from a performance point of view) it seemed a no brainer when you look at fuel, tax & servicing costs.

On the road 1 second is nothing at all, believe me - spent many £££'s to work this out.

They are paying for the right to be quicker on paper, not on the road (Bugatti Veyron anyone) on the road, many on-paper slower cars would live with a Veyron no problem.

Only motor racing is that kind of time difference relevant.
