    Hi Magpie
sounds like your brake servo isn't working.to test it ,pump brake pedal a few times with engine turned off to release sevo vacuum. press down brake pedal and keep the pressure on the pedal, start engine with the pressure still on pedal,if servo is working right the pedal will drop towards the floor slightly,if it does'nt move check vacuum line non-return vave.

or just the fact that the vectra brakes dont feel that good anyway! mind i do drive a mini which anchors itself to the spot at the slightest hint of a press on the pedal

My ex used to complain that the brakes on my old X-reg Vectra B were no good. There was nothing wrong with them at all.
She was comparing them to the over-servo'd highly sensitive brakes on her 307. I used to find that the 307 would stand on it's nose with the slightest, lightest touch on the brake pedal. It was difficult to drive smoothly with such over-servo'd brakes.
In terms of a driving experience I much prefered the Vectra as I found it easier to control with brakes that were much more progressive.
The Signum I now have has brakes that have more servo action than the old Vectra B but I find that the brakes are fine.
So you may actually be comparing brakes systems that have more pedal asssistance rather than actually have any fault.
Check and make sure that the brakes are 100% correct of course!
