    Cool RIAT 2009 - Penfold's Pics...

After the dabaucle that was last year's Royal International Air Tatoo (which would've been my first...) I was tentative about trying again for this year's one, but decided I'd give it a go a get my girlfriend along to see if she enjoyed that sort of thing as it's a lot more than just planes...

For reasons I won't go in to, I managed to get hold of 2 free tickets for the sunday show. This may have been a slight red herring, as the weather on saturday was (by all accounts...) brilliant. Sunday, however, left a lot to be desired...

Arrive not long after 12, and the whole day was a mixture of brief intervals of sunshine and blue skies surrounded by horrendous downpours and winds... We stayed there for 4 hours having some lunch, chatting to her friend in the Army Recruitment Team, watching the flyng displays when they could fly and having a wonder up and down the flightline of parked aircraft.

Picture taking was a bit tricky due to the weather, but here's a few of the day. There will be a video following later on once I've finished editing it...

    Enjoy

That was the main thing I wanted to see - it's such an unknown quantity for every airshow it's booked at, so after that had flown I was a happy man...

Saw (and heard ) it for free over Malvern on Sat afternoon at 3:15 pm while walking in open Country so had uncluttered view.

It was flying S to N, would it have been on its way from by then?

Fantastic pics - I was due to go last year before the carparks turned to mud baths! Once bitten etc.

Also lucky enough to see the Vulcan for free. Sitting in the classroom on Friday afternoon, kids hyper cos it's the last day. One of the kids pipes up "I can see a jet flying past!" Of course, I wasn't impressed - we see loads of planes flying by. Out of courtesy, I had a look and lo and behold, it was the Vulcan. Having seen it at RAF CHivenor displays when I was but a stripling, and having followed it's travails since, I felt obliged to tell the kids about the old girl's amazing history.

Not that they cared. They just wanted to go home!!!

It's a combination of trying to capture what's going on and at the same time see it with my own eyes to enjoy... If you spend too much time looking thrugh the lens of the camera you miss what's happening in front of you...
