Alternator remove/replace query

Hi All,

Posted this in here because it isn't a proper "how to" and the cambelt "how to" isn't clear.....

I have suffered with the well recorded failed alternator (i.e. no warning, engine management lights, power steering, etc.) on my 1.9CDTi 150 and had it tested to confirm it was dead. Tried to follow the cambelt guide and it suggests I have to remove the engine mounting - yet I have the Haynes manual, which suggests you remove the front wheel.

Has anyone carried this out and if so, which is the easiest? I have actually managed to get the old one off already without removing either engine mount or wheel, however it looks like I need to make room in order to remove the belt tensioner.

If someone could give me a steer, I would be grateful. I have til Monday anyway cos I have had to leave my old alternator with the motor factors so they can remove the clutch pulley - PITA spline tool required!!

Sussed it out anyway - took off the front wheel and after dropping the new alternator in, I simply levered the belt tensioner bolt with a 15mm to get the belt back in.

Piece of pi$$ - might even write a howto.....
