Default Going along and then the yellow spanner came on...

Slight panic as we're off to La Belle France soon and my 120 CDti has decided its time to play me up..

The car has been going like a dream but, today the 'yellow spanner' has come and stayed on and it feels as flat as a witches ***.

Now, has anyone else experianced the same thing and what was the best solution / fix?

    All suggestions welcome please

Could have been worse...we could have been on holiday..

    Ta

Normally that is the MAF playing up, but it could also be a sensor, have you had the airfilter out lately, if you have check all the pipes running near it as one of those may have come off and that makes the turbo cut out.

This happened to me two weeks ago. When I switched off and restarted the light would reset but come back on about 5 miles further up the motorway. I was 70 miles from home so limped into Perrys in Rotherham. They hooked it up and it turned out to be the DPF 85% blocked! The auto regen had not been working. They manually set the regen and reprogrammed the ECU. Much improved to drive and light has not come back on since. Excellent work by Perrys turned me around immediately on a busy Wednesday morning obviously without an appointment.

    That's interesting MB.
The car is mainly used for shorter trips these days.

I have replaced the airbox mod bit that I removed earlier , checked any obviously loose connections...and on pressing the dash reset button I get '002 04' come up.
    Is this a fault code

    a loud cry of MERDE

    1) Vaccum hose spilt (cheap)
    2) Throttle body clogged & partially jammed (£242 to you sir)

Engine manangement light on & max 3000 rpm and she drives.. like a peeeg.

Good bit..'Evans Halshaw', VX dealer at Saltash have come up trumps and can get my Vec sorted prior to the trip to France.

Other good bit....it happened now and not next week...

    C'est la vie

    Oh well

I still think it will be a hose, might not be split just disconnected, take the engine cover off and have a look behind the engine for them, the throttle body housing is easy but iirc on my Omega it doesn't cause the fault you have, just mearly shoves the light on.

I had a good look for any hose problems.
VX found a perished & small spilt vacuum hose.
Jurys out on the EGR valve, but research on the internet points toward the fault the VX computer identifies & the symptoms the car showed.

Fingers ( and everything else crossed)

Car has been collected, top job by VXdealer.
Big thanks to Martin for sorting me out at short notice.

Power & drivability is fully restored. Better than ever !

The throttle body was full of crap/oil/gunge and that little lot damaged the electronics.

All very odd I have to say...

Makes me wonder a) why? b) will this happen again? c)what's next...?

    Its only done 47K fcs

Does this make any sense to you guys?
