    Default Alarm

    Hi i read a thread on here a few weeks back about disconnecting the alarm speaker in the boot which would make the horn takeover. well i tried it and the speaker just kept going of even when it was not in the car after i disconnected it and the horn didnt take over. what am i doing wrong.

    Sorry if this is a silly question, but you did remove the wire from the speaker? If so i cant see how it could possibly go off

    yep i removed the wire and had the speaker in my hand it kept going off so i took it into the garage and left it there while i was checking to see if the horn takes over.

    It is a factory fit alarm ??
    Decent aftermarket alarms have self powered sounders.

    The factory fit one also has a battery back up - or at least it used to.

    If the factory fit one has a battery back up then to stop it from going off when disconnecting the main car battery, first you have to turn on/off the ignition and then disconnect the battery within 15 seconds. Once you've done this then try disconnecting the power sounder.

    Some more info to file away. Must admit when I took mine out of the old vectra so I could get better access it didn't do anything (just unlocked the car and started to pull things apart ).

    Horn doesn't take over on my 02 GSi either - some do, some don't.
