Default Fault Code reader or investigation charge?

Cannot use the 'trick' of reading my fault code as it's a direct.Dealer wants £45 too investigate the issue. If it turns out to be the high pressure fuel pump, I may have a bit of comeback as its on the Dealers system as only being replaced last year.

Fault code reader of Ebay is around £30, but that may simply point to the HPFP and Id still have to go into Vauxhall to get it checked if I wanted to pursue any action. Are these readers any good?

I dont think you can really knock them for the price. I hope to be buying one in the future, use it once & you are quids in! (not that I want to use it...) of course the kit the dealer uses will be far superior, but £45 for 5 mins work?

Are the U480 OBD II CAN BUS readers compatible with the 2004 2.2 Direct Vectra? Not sure if my car is 1/2 or full CAN BUS. Also where is the connection hidden? Are the readers better/more efficient than the similar priced laptop based readers? I do not want to fiddle about with any programming, I simply want to get a code to look at my engine issues. Dealer wants £45 for a basic diagnoses, but the price could increase if it requires more investigation wtf? and then I still need to resolve the issue.Potentially looking at the HP fuel pump (again)

    Thanks

I use the U581 reader on my 1.8l petrol with no problem, says its OK with all petrol cars from 2001. One on ebay here:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Car-Code-Reade...3A1%7C294%3A50. The diagnostic socket is under the front ashtray, just lifts out.

even though it mentions op-com i think there is better out there, just had a quick look on ebay & the seller who sold the ones i was interested in is no longer a registered user *think* the one I wanted was similiar to the U581
