    Default Z22YH (2.2 Direct) Misfire

I am looking for help trying to diagnose this (i've posted before but have a bit more info)

When accelerating hard (most noticeable in 3rd around 3-4k revs) there is a massive misfire, not even a flatspot, definitely a misfire. The spanner light comes on in most instances, but in some cases, does not.Restarting the engine always clears the fault. Other than this, the car drives fine.At 70mph on the motorway etc, etc.

Car is at 66k miles now.Approx 1 year ago, I had an engine failure and it was replaced by Vauxhall. It was something to do with the chain.Just before this, I had a High Pressure Fuel pump fail. This was also done by Vauxhall under Warranty. I am reluctant to believe it is the HPFP as the symptoms are nothing like what I experienced at the previous failure. In the last week, I have taken out the spark plugs and refitted the old ones (I found one of the plugs to be of a slightly different colour to the others - looks a bit like slight overheating?),did oil and filter and added X1, changed the air filter and let my fuel tank run down and refilled with Shell and added Redex (usually use Morrisons or Tesco as these are my local filling stations). All of this hasn't helped. I appreciate that I may need to bite the bullet and get it Tech 2'd but I just hate the thought of them taking £80 to say - it could be this or it could be that.

From reading this Forum (as I do regularly) it could potentially be the HPFP (but that would really p*** me off after only having this done recently), coil pack ?, dirty injector, EGR ? (not sure what the symptoms would be for this).

Sorry for the speel, just trying to narrow things down

    John

I'd go for the coil pack TBH mate. The EGR wont cause a misfire.

Does it have to be a Z22YH specific coil pack? If I get one, do I need anything Tech 2'd after fitting?

John I am driving Vectra with the same engine as you but mine has done now 110k and I went through a lot with it. We had recently a long discusion about similar problem, where I also described mine in more detail. In my case it was a Turbo Charger failure. Please look at this thread:

It might help you a bit, might not but it's probably worth looking.

The fuel pump and regulator had to be replaced when I had this fault code come up.

An all too common fault that was recently publicised on Watchdog.

My HPFP was replaced around 14 months ago.Vauxhall Customer care were on the phone today to say that they would not offer any goodwill on this repair even though the pump has 'potentially' failed AGAIN after such a short period of time. I was trying to see where I stood prior to going any further with this.At this moment is time I have tried to do a lot of 'homework' to get to the bottom of the issue without using the Dealer as there is really no point. A mate in his garage has read the fault code, there would be no assistance with the repair from Vx even after having a new pump fitted last year so in my view, I would be better sourcing and fitting a pump and/or a regulator myself.I'm going to have to do that anyway.

I find it almost incredible that a £500 expensive every year or so is, by Vauxhall's reckoning, acceptable. How they are aware of this much talked about issue, and continue to be so unsupportive is beyond me. If I had a TV that had a known fault and I put it on for repair and the exact same fault occurs a year later, I would not buy that brand again and I would advise all my friends and family to do the same. There is a known issue with this engine Z22YH, in particular this pump, and it has certainly put me off buying Vauxhall again due to the attitude of the Customer Care team

Just out of curiousity, are these Siemens pumps serviceable? (I see a niche in the market !!) if not, can they be bought from another source other than Vx? (Siemens must make a fortune on the turnaround of this ****ty designed piece of engineering - well done them )

    Rant over ............
