Default Advice please re the well known 2.2 Fuel Pres problems

I am experiencing the well known and well reported fuel pressure problems on a 2005 Vectra 2.2 Sri estate.

Car is out of warranty and, of course, Vx dont want to know, despite reminding them of their pledge to BBC's Watchdog.

Their customer service manager (or one of them) stated in an Email to me back in February, that Vx had a new pump design (rectified seals available) but didn't yet have a fix for the problem Fuel Pressure Regulator.

I assume the Fuel Pump they refer to is the High Pressure Pump and not the pump fitted inside the petrol tank. My Vx dealer had previously advised the pump inside the tank needs changing plus the regulator. A big job they said and not much change out of £1000.

    My Questions are:

    1. If I go to my Vx dealer for a replacement HP fuel pump, will I automatically get the updated version with the rectified seal design?

    2. Does this pump have a new part numer or the same as the old pump design?

    3. Can I tell by looking at the old and new pumps if they are different?

    4. Please, does anybody know if Vx have yet completed a new fuel pressure regulator design and, if yes, is this available yet?

    5. I guess an even bigger question, if a new Fuel Pressure Regulator design is available, does it work? Even with Teso petrol?

    6. The problem with my car, especially after a short run and stop, is the ECU warning light comes on when I attempt to re-start and the engione wont run. Sometimes, the engine just dies whilst driving (can't possibly happen says Vx). From research, this would seem to be indicative of just a Fuel Press Reg issue alone. Therefore, should I change both HP Pump and FP Reg or just the FP Reg?

Any advice very welcome, before I drive it off Beachy Head.

    Many thanks

Pretty much the same happened to mine with approx 3 weeks warranty remaining. The garage were advised by Vauxhall to replace the pump and regulator.

Can't help with whether the replacement parts have been revised or not.

Sorry to hear of your problems mate, heres my five eggs worth, HIH:
    1. You should get the new style but if the dealers happen to have an old style sat on the shelf well...
    2. When newly designed parts are issued they are given new part numbers which superseed the old part numbers.
    3. Probably not.
    4. Not AFAIK and seeing as the 2.2 Direct engine is no longer used in the range, I can't imagine they are working too hard on R&D.
    5. I never use supermarket fuel and my old Direct HP fuel pump failed.
    6. Sounds like the pressure regulator from the symptoms, seen as that is probably the cheaper job, I would try that first, If that doesn't solve it go for the pump.

When my HP fuel pump went, the car would kangaroo and hesitate under acceleration. The spanner light would come on but the car would always start and never stalled.
