Need help with clutch rattle that dissapears when clutch depressed

I have owned my 52 plate 3.2 GSi for two months now and I have noticed a tapping sound coming from the gearbox/clutch area.

The noise is constant. It doesn't matter whether the engine is hot or cold or whether the vehicle is driving or is idling the noise is always there. The only time it goes is when I press the clutch pedal.

Took the car to my local Vauxhall dealers and they said it was the release bearing in the slave cylinder but surely this noise would only be there when the clutch was pressed, not the other way around.

I have had some people suggest the dual mass flywheel while others say it is the clutch so now I am totally confused.

iv got a 1.9cdti 120 05 plate that does the same thing

Sounds like a release bearing to me.

Years ago when I did my own clutch changes I had similar symptons a few months afer I'd done a change and left the bearing alone !

Box off again.....
