Default Does your range computer work...

went to hull last night from leeds aprox 63 miles, was just above red on the fuel gauge so put £25 of unleaded in before i set off. looked at the range on the vecs computer after i had filled up and in was saying 113 miles
got back home in the early hours and computer was showing 45 miles does anybody else have these sort of dodgy readings?

I thought i was, i filled up till it cut out. When i went off and started driving it kept going up and up and up for a couple of days.

Now it doesnt seem to want to give me an accurate reading.

I view the range as a toy and rely on the fuel gauge to tell me when I'm going to run out.

My cousin ran out of fuel in his previous car a BMW 330CD. Range was still saying 30 miles.

The RAC man told him that any fuel computer periodically needs resetting to ensure its accuracy! I would imagine this applies to the Vecs and Sigs too.

He also said not to trust the range too much when you get down into the low numbers, he said always get a feel for what the fuel guage is doing if you need to run the fuel low.

The advice, IIRC, was fill the car up until the pump cuts out, then before driving off, reset all the averages on the trip computer and let the car recalculate the range accordingly!

Not sure of the exact setup on the Vec, but on my Saab it used to work the range based on the last 20mins of driving. So sit at 60 for 20 mins and the range would shoot up conmpared to driving everywhere in second for 20 mins!

oops bobby , depends how fast you drive to outrun him!

Seriously, in the 1.8, petrol light goes from just on to flashing typically in about 15-25 miles, depending on driving.

Wouldn't like to say how long after it starts flashing you'll run for!
