Default Orange Broadband ~ Be warned

Well ive decided on choosing to go with Virgin for our tv broadband and phone.

Phoned up Orange today to cancel after they upped their prices and the speed has dropped off in recent months.

Well i got a nice shock.. yes sir thats £24.60 to disconnect!!!

    WTF!!

So as you can imagine I flipped my lid at them.

Anyone had any dealings with them.. I would norm just cancel my DD and show um that way... but I'm trying to improve my credit score so cant really do that.

They say they have informed me by emailing at an email they provided me that I never use.

    Can anyone help?

Pay it and walk away, put it down to experience and keep your credit score. Will it be free on August 6th, is it an early cancellation charge. If so 1 month more might work out cheaper

request a mac code, speak to new provider and have it all switched from august, just grin and bear it for a few more weeks, save yourself £24 quid

Same with O2 mobiles, you can get out but have to pay disconnect fee for each month

I recall getting an email about a year or so ago (maybe longer) indicating that this disconnection charge was coming in. If I recall it was a charge that was being levied by BT and not the service provider. Although it is upto the service provider wether or not to pass this charge onto the customer, in this case Orange obviously do.

Unluckily I'm also with Orange home broadband but my Broadband is free with my contract mobile (£30 per month). The charge puts me off wanting to change broadband provider although not had any probs with and can't grumble for nothing.

I take it your not with Sky either? They also offer good value broadband but have no idea of level of service you from them. Anyway not looking forward to the day I have to pay to disconnect.

If they have changed the price you originally agreed to or any other part of the service you can walk without charge or they would have to amend the service so it was the same as before

In no way do we claim to be the same as Orange but similar things happen here. Had a guy that too a brand new contract out only for hte price to increase a month or two later. He recieved a letter telling him about hte increase giving him the choice to change or cancel without charge. Needless to say he cancelled and signed up for a new one again
