    Question 2004 CDTi 3.0 V6 code reader

    Hi,

I've been getting more and more frequent solid car/spanner symbols on the dash of my pre-facelift 3.0 CDTi V6. The car always runs fine (no limp home) and is as quick as it's always been. Everytime when I go to use the car again the spanner is out and may come on after a few miles, but again it drives like normal.

I was thinking of getting a code reader to see what's up, but would like something good enough to read this kind of fault as it does appear minor at the moment?

Has anyone any recommendations? I've seen some basic ones for £40 and more expensive ones for £120. Would it be worth paying the extra? I appreciate they won't be as good as the Vauxhall main dealer stuff.

All comments, or recommendations of suitable products MUCH appreciated.
    Cheers
    Pete

The U480 models are adequate that you can get off e-bay.I've got one for my 2004 V6 CDTI and they work a treat for around 20-25 notes.

Thats brilliant thank you. I was expecting to have to pay much more than that and was then worried about buying something that wouldn't work.

Do you think the U480 would pick up minor problems like I'm experiencing? The car drives fine, but I keep getting the spanner light.

    Cheers

The spanner light means there's a code there to be read, so yes, the code reader will indeed help.

Where are you in East Anglia?

If you are near Bury St. Edmunds / Colchester / Ipswich you can borrow my code reader (Maxscan 500).

Thanks for the offer Ghandi thats really good of you but I'm a little bit too far away, I'm near Peterborough. Cheers again though.

I've just been on ebay and found a bloke selling the U480 code readers for £23.99 and I read in his positive feedback they're often delivered within 24 to 48 hours so am going to give it a try.

Thanks for all your replies and I'll keep my fingers crossed that it finds something?

    Cheers
    Pete
