I'd just like to say a big thanks to Mark and Cara for their help today after our mini-meet in Essex.
No sooner had I left the country park and got onto the main road when I heard (and felt) a thunk, thunk, thunk coming from a tyre. I just assumed it was a stone caught in the tread of a tyre, especially with them all being brand new just two days ago.
I gave the car a squirt to see if the speed would dislodge it, but it then just thunked even harder - very loudly actually!! So I pulled over at the first chance to have a look, and expecting to just find a big, big stone wedged in the tread.
Mark and Cara had been not far behind me and pulled over when they saw me stopped. As Mark was looking at the fronts, I was at the rears - and spotted the problem. A mahooosive, and I mean mahooosive, bolt/screw thing right in the centre of the thread. Ferking marvelous I thought!!
Obviously it needed repaired (if it could be) or a new tyre. It was about 4:30 pm (on a Saturday) so time was of the essence to try and get it sorted. I really didn't fancy a 50 mile journey back to Ipswich at 50mph on a space saver wheel!!
I started to look for tyre places on my PDA mobile internet thingy and Mark got stuck into getting the tyre off and the space saver on. Cara zipped off in her car to a Vx dealer that we knew was down the road to enquire about repairs/new tyres. They directed her to a very nearby Kwik-Fit which she then drove to to check that they could do the repair and that they had the same tyre in stock if they couldn't repair it - they did!
So one wheel change later and I was following Mark and Cara to Kwik-Fit. Fortunately the guy there was able to plug the puncture (it was just on the limit for being repairable). All this time (that it was being repaired) Mark and Cara stayed around to make sure that I was definitely sorted and road worthy - and they had a 50 odd mile trip to do themselves.
Once it was repaired and I was sorting out paying and a couple of other bits, Mark (once again) just got stuck into changing the wheels back over.
You're a star m8 and I really appreciated it. And you're a star as well Cara for nipping off and locating the Kwik-Fit and prepping them for us getting there.
It just made the whole event that little bit less of an a**eache. If I'd have been by myself it would have all just taken that bit longer - having to change the wheels, then go and find a repair place etc.
I was a bit late leaving from the meet as it was to head back to Ipswich. I said I'd be back before 5pm, so I was already going to be a bit past that. It's Mrs Duncan's birthday on Wednesday, so we were going out for a meal this evening with some friends (the reason we're up in Ipswich), so the last thing I needed was to be delayed even further with a frigging mahooosive screw/bolt thingy in a (brand new) tyre!!
Ended up getting back just before 7pm!! (had already rung ahead to inform of my little predicament). Just enough time to get changed and get back out to the restaurant!! Phew!!
So thanks you two. if it wasn't for you, I'd have been late for going out for Mrs Duncan's birthday 'do' and I would have been oooh, so popular!! lol I owe you both a drink at PVS!
