    Unhappy Yet more Knob problems

Well guys having read some of the gear shift knob problems on the forum and having the same thing happen to my 06 Vec C last week e.g. the knob started clicking and then sprung off a few days later, I have tried to bash it back on several times but it always seems to spring off again!!!
Yesterday I went to my local VX Stealer in Southport to purchase a new one, being VX I fully expected to pay around £20 - £30 for one. I proceeded over to the Dick Turpin memorial parts counter and explained my predicament, the chap behind the counter put on his mask, his tri-corner hat and demanded £187 for the said knob!! 'how much' I asked in disbelief, 'your having a laugh aren't you ? 'no sir' said the VX sponsored highway man but 'funnily enough that's what the last chap who came in trying to order one said'!. He explained that the knob came with the full linkage assembly and could not be sold separately. I explained that my car was less than four weeks out of it's warranty and that I considered this problem to be one of safety, he suggested that I call VX customer services. So I called VX and guess what? Yes your right, they didn't want to know despite my safety protestations, thanks VX.
So working on the gear knob premiss I would be reluctant to ask them for a wheel nut for fear they may well charge me for the wheel, tyre, break disc and calliper. So it looks like it's glue and a rubber hammer. Thanks for nothing Vauxhall.

Thanks phykell for your support, how VX think this sort of thing is going to help future sales I don't know!! maybe next time I should by another make of car, though I'm sure VX won't lose sleep over that. I should have learnt my lesson years ago, I had a 3 year old Omega 2.5 V6 estate and got a stone hole in the front fog lamp, VX wanted £74 for a new one, not a lot now but in the mid 90s that was also extortionate. Am going to ring them again and push the safety angle, after all had this happened when the car was undergoing it's MOT (three or so ago) I feel sure the car would have failed.
