Im looking at doing it on my dad's, but dont want to be the guinea pig.

I'm quite tempted to try making my own! Looking at the pics the 4 holes in the middle of the plate are a tiny bit bigger than the holes which hold the gasket in place.

Can use the old one as a template, and just drill the 4 holes in.

Its not actually a blanking plate mate, it looks like it just reduces the amount of gases let through. The only engine that can be blanked easily is the 2.2 petrol. Although saying that, I remember a thread a couple of years ago where Vx had run out of EGR's for the CDTI so tech 2's it out??? Don't remember anything elso of it, but i'd imagine if it was easily done then it would be common practice by now, i'm sure Dean would have found it on his by now.

Going to replace my egr soon and am thinking of going down this route. it's gotta be worth a try if it does not work I'll just put the Vx gasket on.

Says in the post linked above that the gaskets were fitted as part of a fiat recall. If it was just the gaskets that were changed then there should be no problem but if fiat did a remap as part of the recall then it might be a different story.

Just a thought.... why not blank the inlet to the EGR-valve?
This would prevent the EGR-valve itself to be clogged and full of dirt.
Wonder why the FIAT-blanking plate is on the outlet of the EGR-valve......

Good point! Also if there is less muck going back into the inlet to be burnt then will it all end up in the DPF causing that to fail quicker

Plenty of useful 1.9JTD (the Fiat name for the 1.9CDTi) EGR information on the Fiat Forum here and in the links to other threads from it.

I didn't have time just now to look all the way through them but the Fiat modified gaskets are referred to several times.

I wish I'd known about it when I did my EGR clean a few weeks ago, I'd have gone for it.

    HTH.
