..I read this from another news report

A deal with Canadian car parts firm Magna International to take over Opel and Vauxhall has been agreed, but not yet finalised.

There's a separate story running to that one, namely that GM are going cool on the idea of selling to the Magna consortium, because the Russian bank that will actually own a bigger percentage of GM Europe than Magna, have let slip they want to asset-strip all the intellectual property and move it to Russia. GM have apparently been surprised and disappointed by the level of technical details the Russians have started asking for. Apparently, due to better than expected sales in Europe in the last couple of months, GM is no longer quite as desperate to sell Vauxhall/Opel and is prepared to wait for another buyer.

Anything's better than an Austro-Canadian parts company asset-stripping VX/Opel and relocating production and selling on to the highest bidder at the behest of their Russian paymasters.

Back to Fiat then maybe, who knows? I can't remember now, if it was even fully published, why they went cold.

Somehow, the idea of any sort of Consortium buying Vx/Opel puts me off. Consortia & Asset Stripping are never far removed partners.

Apparently GM wanted Fiat to stump up another $40Million for the privilege of acquiring GM Europe, so they walked away.
