    Default Cruise Control...

My cruise control is very tempramental.

If I've been driving the car for a few minutes, often the cruise control wont engage.

Also, if I have been using the cruise control and then cancel it with the switch or the pedal, I often cannot get it to re-engage. It does this until the car ignition is turned off and then the car re-started.

This is really annoying and puzzling me - has anyone ever come across this before?

This is on my 52 reg 3.2 Vectra Automatic.

I take it you are not trying to use it below 20mph.Also you have pressed the brakes first before you activate the CC. There might be a problem with the switch on the steering column?.
Edit have a look in the SEARCH box for cruise control. I found this answer in one of the threads.

Yea deffo not trying to use it below 20mph and pressing the brake pedal first.

Is that the actual switch or the contacts on the stalk (removing it from the steering column)?

    Cheers.

Could be a weak pedal spring. Try putting your foot underneath and lifiting it, then see if the CC will work again.

There is a how2 (in the how2 section of all places!) that shows you how to change it.

It is probably the clutch spring. There is a replacement, it is tricky to fit but only because of the position you have to get in! Cost me about a tenner 18 months ago. While the clutch peddle is hanging low, I was advised that it is actually riding the clutch so it's better to get it done asap

As your motor is an auto. You can rule out the ctutch spring. You could try cleaning the contacts on the switch ( steering column).

    Smile Cruise control not working

Just had the column/ indicator stalk changed, but didn't cure the problem, then had the clutch and brake limit switches changed, now okay. Try having the brake wswitch looked at on an auto.
