    Default 3.2 GSI V6 Cambelt/Service

My GSI is on about the 67K mark. According to previous owner the engine was replaced at 14K as it "blew up" under warranty. (Nothing in writing but i have no reason not to believe him other than he was the manager of a vauxhall dealership!)

Need to get a full service soon and was going to get cam belt and tesnsioners replaced. Can't find a garage willing to do it so got a quote from dealer.

£340 including vat/labour for cam belt change
    £180 for full masterfit service.

Hummed and hahed for a minute and they immediately knocked 10% off so down to £468. Sounds OK but just wondering if the masterfit service is worth the money or should i just take it to another garage for a normal full service?

Anything else i should get changed while i'm at it? I did read on other threads that the water pump should be changed also but someone said it isn't driven by belt or was that another engine?

    Thanks for any info

    Roddy

the cambelt cost me just over £300 they do say to have the cam belt done at 40k so you have done well for nothing to have happened it is belt driven i think that is the 2.2 that is chain driven. i didnt bother with the water pump as they said it wasnt needed and that its accessable to be done without doing the cam belt at the same time

my 3.2 elite has just had the belt and pulleys done at 36k miles water pump also replaced and it did have play in it at these low miles even though it wasnt leaking. i would get the lot done as they have to strip just as much of the side of the engine to do the cam belt as the water pump,so if your pump does go you will have a big labour bill again

There's nearly as much work just to change the water pump as there is to change the cambelt. Hence if you don't want to pay two lots of labour, get the pump changed at the same time as the belt.

Shop around for the cambelt change - the garages that aren't interested are the ones that don't have the cam locking kit, and unlike other engines, on the 3.2 it's quite difficult to change the belt without the locking kit. An independent garage that has the kit (and therefore done these before) will be considerably cheaper.

That's exactly the mileage that three VX stealers told me for plugs and cam belt.
